Threaded Discussion Rubric for RE 5040
Koppenhaver

How many entries, how often, how long, by when? What kind of entries? What characteristics should the entries have?
18-20
10 or more original postings and 10 or more replies/responses to classmates' postings, roughly one of each a week, not crammed together at any point in the semester, one or more on each discussion group that is created, done by Dec. 7, 2009. How long is harder to answer -- if you are a poet, you might be able to get at the essence more succinctly. If you're like most students, you'll need to clarify, describe, provide examples that help readers understand your thinking. Your collection of reflective contributions (not each individual entry) will represent the breadth of your thinking about: (a) readings and classroom activities; (b) your definition of and thinking about teacher-research; (c) the process of designing and implementing your own action research project; and (d) insights and connections between any of these and other courses or life experiences and understandings. Entries will have few enough surface errors that the readers' understanding is not impaired. Entries should demonstrate critical reflection. That is, these entries will regularly go beyond the description of adequate entries below and show your ability to apply (at least conceptually) what you are learning, experiencing, discussing, and reading in this class to your own (future) classroom. They will show that you are a reflective teacher.
14-17
8-9 original postings and/or 8-9 replies/responses to classmates' postings, may be less regular in appearance than the full credit description above, and may occasionally lack the detail or clarity of full credit reflections described above. Missing one of the categories above. Entries will present evidence of your ability to analyze, synthesize, evaluate content and process of all aspects of this class. They will show that you can relate past experiences to current. They will show that you are a good student of teaching.
0-13
7 or fewer entries and/or 7 or fewer replies responses and/or irregular contributions and/or often lacking in supportive detail or clarity. Missing two or more of the categories above. Entries will demonstrate your ability to describe clearly your experiences, readings, class activities, definitions, and activities this semester.
